Director Statement
My name is Brian Schodorf, I acted as director, writer
for the documentary Poverty in Chicago. Originally
from Wichita, Kansas I was disturbed to see the
massive numbers of men and women living below the
poverty level in Chicago IL. I then set out to attempt
to conclude some reasoning behind this fast growing
epidemic of homelessness and poverty in the United
States. One by one I began approaching street peddlers
as I listened to their stories, one revolving theme
seemed to attach each
individual, and that was drugs. Why and how a person
turns to drugs varies widely from person to person,
but eventually they all end up in the same place.
Remaining stuck in a cycle of homelessness and
poverty. The inability for low income individuals to
receive proper medical drug treatment is aiding the
problem. This film is aimed at creating social
awareness of a topic that so many of us avoid. Poverty
in Chicago attempts to prove that available treatment
would greatly reduce poverty, crime, and homelessness
in the United States
